Privacy policy

Golf Journal is made by SGWNI, an independent app studio. This policy explains what happens to your information when you use the Golf Journal app and this website. The short version: there's no account and no ads, your golf diary stays on your devices and in your own iCloud, and we only count how the app is used, anonymously.

Your golf diary

Everything you add to Golf Journal, including rounds, scores, practice sessions, courses, notes, photos and videos, is stored on your device and in your own private iCloud account, so it can sync between your iPhone and iPad. It isn't sent to us and we can't see it. You can delete it at any time in the app, or by removing Golf Journal's data in your iCloud settings. If you turn iCloud off for Golf Journal, your diary stays on your device only.

Your handicap estimate, statistics and insights are all worked out on your device. When you scan a paper scorecard, the photo is read on your iPhone or iPad and never uploaded.

Apple Health and Apple Watch

If you allow it, Golf Journal reads the golf workouts recorded on your Apple Watch, with their duration, distance walked and heart rate, from Apple Health so it can offer them to you as rounds. Golf Journal never writes to Apple Health, and Health data is never sent to us, used for analytics or advertising, or shared with anyone. You can turn this off at any time in the Health app or in Settings.

Your location and course lookup

Golf Journal only asks for your location when you look up golf courses near you. When you search for a course, the app sends your position and anything you typed to our course lookup service, which replies with nearby courses from OpenStreetMap. The request carries no account or identifier, nothing about you is stored with it, and your location is never used for anything else. You can always type a course in yourself instead.

Camera and photos

You can take photos or choose them from your library for your rounds, practice sessions and courses, and photograph a scorecard to scan it. Golf Journal only sees the photos and videos you pick, and they're stored with your diary on your device and in your iCloud.

Anonymous usage statistics

Golf Journal uses TelemetryDeck to count how the app is used, such as which screens are opened, how many rounds are logged and whether they're logged hole by hole, and the answers to the optional questions when you first open the app. TelemetryDeck is designed for privacy: it doesn't collect names, email addresses or locations, and the identifier it uses is anonymised on your device before anything is sent. We never send your scores, notes, course names, photos or Health data. You can read TelemetryDeck's privacy policy.

Purchases

Golf Journal Pro is sold through the App Store. Apple handles payment, and we never see your card details or Apple Account. The app uses RevenueCat to check whether you have Pro, using an anonymous identifier and Apple's purchase receipt. You can read RevenueCat's privacy policy.

Notifications

Reminders, such as a nudge when you haven't logged a round for a while or after an Apple Watch golf workout, are scheduled on your device. You can turn them off in the app or in Settings at any time.

This website

This website doesn't use cookies, analytics or advertising trackers. The handicap calculator works in your browser, and any rounds you type into it are saved in your browser only, never sent to us. The site is hosted by Vercel, which keeps standard server logs to run and protect the service.

Children

Golf Journal doesn't knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.

Changes and contact

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date. Questions about privacy are welcome at hello@veglog.app.
